DELICIOUS HOMEMADE SPUDNUTS

What on earth is a Spudnut?! Spudnuts are glazed yeast donuts that have mashed potatoes and starchy potato water. These two ingredients help make a soft and tender dough. ... Adding mashed potatoes makes the dough very soft and workable. We are Idaho girls so this was a special treat in our home! Delicious Homemade Spudnuts are simply the best!

When I (Cassie) was in Junior High our mom came home from work on a Friday evening to a house full of my friends and a Spudnut mess. I honestly don't know why I thought it would e a good idea to make homemade donuts with a dozen friends over. My mom kindly offered to take over so outside we went to hangout. Mom if you are reading this I love you and I'm so sorry!

There is nothing better than a fresh hot doughnut. I can also honestly tell you that my family has hold of the most delicious homemade spudnuts recipe on planet earth. They are easy to make, but do require a time commitment. They make a great Sunday or holiday treat. You'll need around 3 hours to whip these babies up.

SPUDNUTS

Spudnut Instructions: Scald milk. I put mine in the microwave for 5 minutes. Add milk to shortening, sugar, karo, and salt. Mix and when lukewarm, add the yeast mixture. Add beaten egg, mashed potatoes, and potato water to mixture. Mix, then add flour gradually until dough is stiff leaves the side of the bowl. Knead dough for 5 minutes, then move to an oiled bowl. Let it rise until it has tripled in size. Mine took 2 hours. Roll dough out until it is 1/3'' thick on a floured surface. Cut out doughnuts and allow to rise for another hour. Heat oil and fry doughnuts. Place on a paper towel to get off excess oil, then immediately dip in glaze. **Use an electric egg beater when mashing your mashed potatoes so they are smooth and not lumpy.

Glaze Instructions:
Add all ingredients to a bowl and mix well until smooth.
