In my humble opinion, there isn't a treat much easier and more delicious to make than a classic rice crispy treat. Our rice crispy treat recipe is fantastic and makes for a VERY cute Valentine's Day Rice Crispy Treat snack for gifting or for a party platter.
Upgrade that regular rice crispy treat
Not only are we going to upgrade the taste, we are are going to make these treats look adorable. I've got two words for you:
- Butter
- White chocolate drizzle
It's as easy as that!! Add more butter to your recipe for a softer, better tasting rice crispy treat and drizzle colored, melted white chocolate over the rice crispy treats for a bakery looking finish.
How to:
- In a large, microwave-safe bowl, add 2 bags of mini marshmallows & 3/4 Cups slightly melted butter (basically we don't want cold hard butter straight from the fridge).
- Cook marshmallows in the microwave until completely melted. To avoid overcooking your marshmallows, use 30-second increments to ensure they are being watched closely. Stir each time your 30 seconds end. Once the mixture is soupy and smooth, it's done. This process does not take long!!!
- Make sure the butter and melted marshmallows are thoroughly mixed so your treats are not tough.
- Start adding your rice crispy cereal a little at a time.
- Keep adding and mixing until you've reached the desired consistency. You want to keep a nice balance of cereal to marshmallow mixture. The cereal should be coated evenly and your mound of rice crispy treat should feel nice and firm, but able to be shaped.
- Pat treats into a greased jelly roll sheet pan.
- Let cool completely before cutting out heart shapes.
Now that your rice crispy treats are cooled, let's make them into Valentine's Day Rice Crispy Treats!
- Grab your heart-shaped cookie cutter.
- Cut out as many hearts as you can from your jelly roll pan.
- Place them on parchment paper as you go.
Let's upgrade these treats even more with a little melted white chocolate!
- Place 1 cup of white chocolate melting chips in a microwave-safe bowl.
- Follow the same guidelines as you did melting the marshmallows and butter. Watch your melting chocolate closely! Stir periodically through melting and do not overcook. Stirring helped the process along.
- Once melted, add food coloring (if desired) and put chocolate in a piping bag.
- Drizzle over the treats and allow the chocolate to set up and completely harden.
- If no food coloring is desired, drizzle the white chocolate over the treats and add some fun Valentine's Day sprinkles while the chocolate is still wet.
- Don't overcook the marshmallow and butter mixture. I've found the lots of stirring makes the marshmallows melt faster with less time in the microwave.
- Cook the mixture in small time increments until it is smooth and soupy.
- Short on time? Drizzle the whole jelly roll pan of rice crispy treats with chocolate, skip the heart shape cut outs, and cut out regular squares.
- Poke a sucker stick through the bottom of each heart and bag it in a cellophane bag. Tie it off with a cute ribbon. Cutest. Gift. Ever.
