Cream Puffs

Picture
Cream Puffs use to intimidate me...my waistline wishes they still did....but this is such an easy recipe that it would be hard to mess them up!
My mom use to make these for parties and fill them with a delicious chicken filling.
Today, we'll be sharing my all time favorite homemade vanilla pie filling!
Cream Puffs
1/2 cup shortening
1/8 tsp. salt
1 cup boiling water
1 cup flour, sifted
4 eggs, mixed
Add shortening and salt to boiling water and stir over medium heat until mixture boils. Lower heat, add flour all at once and stir vigorously until mixture leaves the sides of the pan. Remove from the heat and add a little of the beaten egg, beating thoroughly after each addition. Shape on an ungreased cookie sheet (mine were a tablespoon) and bake in hot oven at 450 degrees for 20 minutes. Then reduce the oven temperature to 350 degrees and bake another 20 minutes (40 minutes total cooking time.) Remove from oven and place on a rack to cool. When cooled, make a slit on the side of each cream puff and fill with; whipped cream, vanilla pudding, chocolate pudding, cream cheese filling, or chicken filling, Enjoy!
