Complete room makeover for under $100!

October 20, 2016 by Sadie Leave a Comment

I completely decorated and furnished my children's bedroom for under $100. How is this even possible? A little work and my favorite new tool....Craiglist. The free section on Craigslist is my new Facebook. I kid you not. I spend no time on social media, and all of my time on Craiglist hunting out my next project.

Just because it's fun to look at, here is my list of everything I got for free, and my list of purchases for this room.

Free:
Lockers
Ladder
Iron bed frame
Mattress set
Window Chalkboards
Pallet bookshelf
Mint green nightstand/bookshelf
Frames (made with wood I had 3 years ago)
Mirror
Trunk at the foot of the bed

Purchased:

  • Kids rocking chair $15
  • Curtains: $12
  • Curtain rod: Had in storage and re-purposed in this room
  • Deer head: Made myself w/ wadded up newspapers & tree branch antlers from my yard. Had to buy a roll of duct tape as part of the "forming" process. $6
  • Paint for the chalkboards $4
  • Trader Joe's wreath $10
  • Ikea Bedding $40 including sheets
  • Ikea Rug $12
  • Sharpie marker for the "Sharpie Shiplap" $3
The first item of business was painting on the shiplap lines. The tutorial can be found here. Next I painted my windows to be chalkboards. That was the extent of painting. Next I just hung everything. I had an idea of how I wanted the room to turn out. I wanted it to be light and bright, but with a touch a whimsical since this room is for my babies.

I wanted the decorations on this wall to be simple. The ladder and wreath worked perfectly.

This wall is a bit more busy, but that's how I wanted it! Each child has a chalkboard, and then a picture of their puppy, and a picture of each of them. This little pallet bookshelf was something we had sitting around, and I needed more storage for books. It fit the gallery wall perfectly!

The lockers were a lucky find. I intended them for storage, but thus far I am having a hard time keeping the toys organized....so that is a work in progress.

I am very pleased with how it turned out! I like their room better than my room in fact!
